The Broadcast Ministers Alliance of Chicago Inc. was founded in 1975 by Reverend Clay Evans, Bishop Isaiah Roberts, Reverend Oris Mays, Reverend Clarence Cobbs, and a number of other leading Pastors in the Chicago area who sponsored weekly radio and television broadcast. These leading Religious broadcasters formed an ecumenical fellowship that meet monthly. The BMAC has a rich history of community service.
The Broadcast Ministers Alliance of Chicago has been involved in a number of Public service activities which have included: Food drives for the needy families during the holiday, radio-thons, voter registration drives, purchase of radio and investment in cable television. The unity among the pastors and congregations who host weekly radio and or television broadcast has had a major impact on:
Protection of the broadcasting rights of the black church.
Communication of messages of interest and importance for members of the community.
spreading social gospel messages and information.
Promoting community news from a faith based perspective.
Initiatives
The members of the BMAC have been responsible for a number of initiatives such as:
Investment in the original cable network in the City of Chicago.
The preservation of African American religious participation in cable throughout Illinois.
Protection of broadcast time on major radio and cable television stations by African American religious organizations and churches.
